“woof” she said. “hush” i said.

and then…it was a manic monday January 15, 2007

Filed under: Birthdays, Family, Sewing, diddya wanna know? — essieandeisbar @ 10:50 am

I’m sure, in the scheme of things…me calling it a bad day at 10:44 a.m. CST is probably wrong. But to me..it’s a TERRIBLE DAY!

First, I couldn’t wake up. I was in a NyQuil coma..and quite frankly I do NOT feel any better
And then…it was snowing..so my train was late
And then..there was a man on my train pleasuring himself
And then…I missed the last shuttle, the last bus, so I had to take a Taxi..there went my last 8 bucks
And then…I couldn’t find my elevator key to get to my floor
And then…Mark called..we got a ticket for our expired plates…

SHEESH! I should have let the NyQuil coma take over.

On the sewing note…why is it that it takes the most time to cut out all the pieces?? I still haven’t done one stitch on my neice’s present. She turned 18 two days ago!! I’m a lazyoverhwelmed auntie! My goal is to have it shipping by friday. Let’s just hope I have less ‘manic mondays’.

Not to get all “Veruca.” on you… January 11, 2007

but I want.  I want a whole lotta’ things.  Mind you I can’t really have them…but I do pine over them.

  • I want this book when it comes out. It’s by the super inspiring Amy Karol.
  • I want the new Craft: issue.
  • I want this book too…I’m a book whore fiend.
  • but i love the monkey
  • I want to upgrade my Flickr to PRO.
  • I want to start a new collection. I want to collect Elephants with their trunks turned up.
  • I want a home, like a REAL HOUSE…so I can organize it and decorate it like crazy!

Okay, so the house thing is awhile away…but it’s nice to want :D The book and magazine?? Sooo gonna be mine…

This weekend, I’m braving rain, sleet, or snow to go thrifiting.  One of my “get happy in chicago” goals for 2007 is to buy something for the apartment every month (within my budget). I also have giant plans for a headboard and a quilt-design board {that I can turn around when company comes over and it’ll look like a big piece of artwork}.

What are you doing this weekend? If you want to come thrifting with me, let me know! I’m, uh, in Chicago, so plane fare is all yours! ::CHEERS::

Catching Up Endeavors January 8, 2007

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukah! Happy New Year!

Boy am I late.  My holidays were filled with much traveling {CA}, love {whole family!} and craftyness.  I wish I had taken more pictures, but the mood just didn’t suit stoping to find the perfect light or the right angle.

Christmas Eve came and went, and nearly 70% of all the gifts exchanged were handmade!

My dad turned {wood lathe-fun} pens for everyone, as well as matching salt and pepper shakers for my sister in law.

My sister in law made me a purse.

My sister made my mom a wall hanging and a scarf

My sister also made all of us tissue holders

My mom made us all purse organizers

WOWIE! Plus there was the handmade ornament thrown in here in there. It was fantastic.  I also got to see some of my closest girlfriends. There was so much more I’ve wish I could have done, but all and all, I’m quite satisfied.

{{{now..if your name rhymes with pangelique, ignore}}}

I’m starting to work on the first new project of 2007.  That’s right, I have plenty unfinished from 2006, 2005, etc…but this one is new, and fun, and a GIFT!!! It’s the “Betty Shopper” by Amy Butler.  With this fabric as the outside:

I think it’s going to be just awesome and huge for her to take back and forth between her parent’s houses…It’s just too darn cold for me to cut into the fabric tonight, but I hope to have it done soon!

Apron/Sweater Redux Endeavors November 20, 2006

Filed under: Amy Butler, Christmas, Family, Redux, Sewing, Thanksgiving, WIP — essieandeisbar @ 8:52 pm

I’ve been a busy girl! Not really..but I like to pretend I am :D

In a few days I’ll be on my way to sunny Florida. It’s a warm 60 degrees down there! Woo hoo! I’m spending Thanksgiving with my generous brother and his wonderful family. His wife is the best piece quilter EVER! She’s really talented. Actually, she’s part of my crafty background. When I was young, I would stay with them in Monrovia, CA. She would break out her stamps and we would have ourselves a blast! That’s also where I got my fear of oven doors..but that’s another story….

So! For a great big “THANK YOU” on Thanksgiving, I’m making my sister in law an apron, and if time permits…matching potholders. This is the pattern from Amy Butler’s In Stitches. It’s really easy, but I’m such a visual person that I had to spend a couple days reading the pattern to visualize what happens. M thought I was highly confused due to the furrowed brow!

Here are some in progress pics…

Collections… November 9, 2006

Filed under: Collections, diddya wanna know? — essieandeisbar @ 10:11 pm

Collections are different for each person…I collect quite a few things:

  • Snowglobes
  • Westies (not just the real deal)
  • Vintage Cookbooks
  • Books in general
  • Christmas — let’s just leave it at that.

So here’s the catch! All my collections are still in CA. I miss them. I want to display things. I feel like my home is SO empty. Slowly things are coming over thanks to my VERY gracious parents sending a box here and there. I got rid of A LOT of stuff. It’s amazing what emotional attatchment we have to THINGS.

But, I do feel that you have to admit, although you wouldn’t call them “collections” it’s really okay to say “I can never have enough…”

  • Socks (cute ones :D )
  • Scarves
  • Hats
  • Mittens
  • Straight Pins
  • Pincussions
  • Scissors
  • Buttons
  • Hair ties
  • Pajama bottoms
  • Cute panties
  • Pens

Okay, maybe it’s just me…but hey! you’ll never run out of gift items for me :D

finally…an open letter to old navy…

Dear Old Navy,
I love your clothes. They are just so darn cute, and great price to boot! But whoever decided to put the tags on my side where I ITCH IT ALL DAY LONG needs to be fired.
Just saying.

Dog love:yo quiero!!!

STILL in progress endeavors November 2, 2006

Filed under: Knitting, Sewing, WIP — essieandeisbar @ 9:20 pm

Ooh! and two completed:
I finished the curtains for my co-worker. She was REALLY appreciative which made me happy for agreeing to help her out. I made them as even as possible, but one was 1/4″ wider than the other. meh! I even made her some tie-backs with what was leftie…Yay!

In honor of fall (not a real “halloween girl”…this is more important to me :D ) I made this cute little wreath. It’s from BHG.
I can’t say I did it justice, but it works for me! And this is my mother’s work…see why I’m so crafty!

Now, things I’m still working on..or thinking about working on…
Here is some of the knitting I’ve started. The scarf for M will be folded in have and stitched up like a tube so it will be extra warm. The other one (not pictured yet…) is a CG (christmas gift).

Speaking of CGs, I’m flattered to see that my bestest CA friends are reading this. SOOOO, I have to be careful what I post..or else CGs will be ruined all around!

And here is a sweater.

I loved this sweater. This is a gap sweater. gap sweaters aren’t cheap. I’m cheap. This sweater shrunk out of the blue. I didn’t wash it any differently, it just gave up and said “quit it boobs!” and shrunk. sooo…it’s going to be cut up into christmas trees, sewn, stuffed, buttoned and gifted as ornaments. Can’t you see it!? Close your eyes, squint…there ya go!

Also, whip-up posted something that was on twelve22 awhile ago. It’s a gift from a god really. It’s how to perfectly sew zippers to make pouches. Anna writes SO well, and it’s witty too…I can’t wait to try it out so that my zips don’t look like THIS again!

Other things brewing:
* The palm zire has come out of retirement….it’s time to get techy again!
* Possible ipod cover out of a had that ain’t workin it for me no more
* still gotta do my alterations…I’m running out of pants!
* My mamma sent me some fleece so I can make blankie quilt from GBP (Gooseberry Patch) I can’t wait to try it!
* I want a Blythe doll….I have decided it’s my new obsesson…one I can’t afford until I marry that doctor of mine…oh hunney?

And now, Eisbär:

Damn straight..that’s all CLEAN laundry. I file by pile you know…

Things I need to finish…

* My alterations…I took a freakin class, I should FINISH them ey?

* My co-worker’s curtains. Okay, I’m totally procrastinating because I don’t want to fudge them up and then have her hate me.  Is that so wrong?

* A scarf for M.  I need to practice my knitting.  I understand the fundementals of each stitch…but I need to increase my speed and tension.  The train will be an excellent place to practice!

It’s hard when I work all day and only have 2 hours of free time a night…! I can’t wait for the weekend!

Dog Zen:

She’s got one eye on me…:D

Pumpkin Endeavors October 23, 2006

Filed under: Halloween — essieandeisbar @ 10:29 am

Last week, my girls and I carved our pumpkins.  I decided to go for something sweet and simple…stars! I also absolutely adore my initials…so I made an homage to Martha Stewart and my name with a giant “S”.

Please ignore the messy sewing area, mine are the right two on the table.

Saturday, I spent the morning with my roomie visiting knit shops in the area as well as findng the closest Hancock Fabrics.   I got the SOFTEST baby alpaca in a sort of charcoal grey.  I want to make a hat like aunt purl did, but I’m confused on needle sizing.  I think I’m just gonna make a simple scarf for my sweetie.

Saturday afternoon I roasted the pumpkin seeds.  Man oh man, those things are a bugger to clean up.

But they turned out so delicious and incredibly addicting.  I’m actually eating some now…
